My name is Victoria Green and I'm a medical student at the University of Nottingham. You may or may not have heard of The Kenyan Orphan Project, which was founded in 2002 by a small group of medical students here. Their aim was to provide good and very affordable healthcare to those in need in one of the poorest regions of the world - Kisumu, in western Kenya - a region where one in three schoolchildren is orphaned by AIDS. Each year since then, the project has grown larger and stronger, and so far the students, doctors and nurses who have flown out there have managed to build a private hospital, a free children's wing and a primary and secondary school, as well as achieving many other accomplishments in the area. Through their dedication, fundraising and the support of generous well-wishers, they have managed to transform healthcare in this deprived region of the world, making care and AIDS treatment accessible to those who would never have been able to receive it otherwise; and giving children who are the orphans of AIDS victims the chance to gain a free education. These are rights which everyone deserves.

This summer, from 1st to 15th July, I am travelling to Kenya as part of a group of 30 medical students to continue the good work of those who went before us, by running and maintaining the hospitals and teaching in the schools amongst other things. However, we need your financial help in order for us to carry out the work while we are there and pay for the vital medicines that are central to this project.
