ISLE OF MAN – In May 2020, Victim Support Isle of Man will
celebrate its 21st Birthday. The Manx-registered charity had planned
an afternoon tea to mark the occasion, inviting previous volunteers, staff, and
clients, as well as everyone involved with the charity today.

Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 outbreak, understandably
the celebration and other fundraising events have been postponed or cancelled.

Paula Gelling, Victim Support Manager, explained: “Given the
current circumstance, of course we have felt it necessary to cancel our 21st
event. That said we still want to acknowledge this landmark for the charity.
It’s incredibly important that we recognise everyone who has supported us for
the past 21 years – we have achieved an awful lot locally and will continue to
do so in the future.”

To mark the occasion, the charity has launched a digital
fundraising campaign to raise £2,100 throughout the month of May. If 100 people
donated £21 or 1,000 people donated £2.10, the target would be met.

Paula continues: “We understand the financial pressure that
many people are currently facing and appreciate any support, however big or
small. During lockdown we have seen some fantastic ways in which the community
has come together, albeit virtually or at a distance. Fundraising activities
could include a cake bake off at home, a virtual quiz night via Zoom, or saving
a week’s car parking or coffee spend. However you can support - it really is
appreciated.”

The charity, which offers vital services to victims of crime
on the Isle of Man, through both Victim Support and the Witness Service, relies
heavily on fundraising, with around £50,000 of fundraising required to ensure
the charity can continue to operate, alongside support received from the Isle of Man Department of Home Affairs and the Manx Lottery Trust.
