Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

All the main details are on www.vietnamcambodiacycle.co.uk

My name is Anthony Priest. This page is all about my endeavour to raise £6,500 for two important charities – the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) and the Milton Keynes Community Foundation.

The online donations on this page will go direct to the Milton Keynes Community Foundation. If you want to donate to MAG then please go to the main web site, www.vietnamcambodiacycle.co.uk and donate via the MAG link on the donations page. That site also has details of all the corporate sponsors, and a diary of my training in the build up to the event.

Each year, Milton Keynes Community Foundation supports a wide range of projects that benefit people of all ages; including those with special needs, disabilities, children, youth groups and older people.

My challenge this time is to cycle over 330 miles from Ho Chi Minh City ( Saigon to the oldies of us ) the capital of Vietnam, completing five days later at Angkor Wat the famous world heritage site deep inside the west of Cambodia. To make my challenge a little harder this time round, daytime temperatures will reach 30 degrees C combined with over 60% humidity.

The cycle challenge starts in late February 2009 in Ho Chi Minh City – Vietnam. Over the following five days, I will cycle over 330 miles to Tay Ninh, the city famous for being the home of the Cao Dai religion. Then I cross into Cambodia and the famous Mekong River. I then cycle up some of the infamous Ho Chi Min trail – used so heavily during the Vietnam war and the subject of Films such as “Good Morning Vietnam and Apocalypse Now” then onto places such as Svay Reing, Kompong Cham and Kompong Thom. This is the area known in recent decades as "The Killing Fields”. Finally passing the huge Tonle Sap lake before reaching Angkor Wat home of the famous 12th century temples, now a World Heritage site.

Finally, just so you are all aware, this will be an enormous physical challenge for me. Yes, I did the Death Valley ride a couple years ago, but I’m really not a cyclist. I play football (badly) a little, but I’m not some super fit “iron man”, I’m just a late 40’s guy who wants to do what I can for two extremely worthwhile causes that I feel deeply about.

I’m willing to do the hard physical labour, but I would sincerely appreciate any donations that you can give.

Thank you for your support. Please dig deep and sponsor me.
