This year we are completing a 27 mile bike ride around the Viking trail wearing Viking hats. We have decided to raise money for Action Duchenne which campaigns to raise money for funding trials and research to help find a cure for this cruel condition.

Please Help Us Find A Cure　

Very recently our little boy Louis, who is 7, was diagnosed with having Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The past couple of months have been very painful for all of us, as we have had to learn about Louis' condition and cope with knowing how he will be affected in the future. This came as a complete shock to our whole family as we'd never heard of this form of muscle disease, nor is there any previous family history of this condition.

There are a number of different types of muscular dystrophy, Duchenne being the most severe. It causes a cruel, progressive muscle weakness due to muscle cells breaking down, which in time are gradually lost. This is a very rare and serious condition, with 1 in every 3,500 males being a sufferer. By the age of 8-11 years most boys are unable to walk and for most by their late teens/twenties the condition is severe enough to shorten life expectancy considerably.

“Having the knowledge that there is no cure for this disease is heartbreaking, our only wish is that one day a cure will be found and Louis will have the life he deserves.”
