Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
I am running the Land Rover Malta Marathon on the 1st March 2009. This is my way of hopefully raising some money for AICR, my chosen charity who I have supported for 23 years.
Recently I have heard of the tremendous fight being waged by a dear friend against a very aggressive cancer-he will not give up and I hope that his determination will inspire me and spur me on. My aches and pains are nothing to what he is going through and still has to face.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Association for International Cancer Research gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
Mid February - 2 weeks to go!
This up-date brings sad news. David, for whom I am running the marathon, has sadly passed away and his sudden deterioration shocked us all. It now makes me even more determined to raise funds to fight this terrible disease which brings such heartache and distress to so many families.
We are off to Malta at the end of this week. Preparations have been up and down - a bout of flu early in the New year put me back three weeks but I am back on course. My longest run has been 3hrs 45 mins (22miles) and I would hope to complete the 26 miles in about 4hrs 45 mins. This obviously will depend on conditions on the day (I am not good at running in the heat), my old creaky joints and the course(supposedly downhill all the way but I think not!)
I already have £500 + pledged on sponsor sheets spread throughout the town
but have still a long way to go so please help if you can. Many thanks.
9 March
The marathon went really well! The day dawned cool and dull, ideal conditions - the only downside was a strong wind in exposed parts. I felt cramp setting i n in the last few miles but persevered and was amazed to finish in 4hours 21 minutes, a personal best and 7 minutes faster than London three years ago. Later on we went to the prizegiving and I got the trophy for the first lady over 55.
Many thanks for all who have sponsored me so far and so generously!
