My story

 

Sally and the Victim Support Team would like to thank everyone who turned up to do 'Walk for Carly' on Sunday, and for all those that donated to this great cause.  I total of all amounts raised will be published shortly...

 

This fundraising page will stay open for the next couple of weeks for those that have not yet donated!  The sun shone, the wasps stung, but it was a fantastic day and we all deserve a BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE!!!!!

All donations go to the Professional Counselling Services of Victim Support, Wigan

On the 6th September 09 there is a very special event happening at Haigh Hall.  We are holding a Charity sponsored walk in memory of a local young girl, Carly Fairhurst who was violently killed by her partner in 2006, she was only Nineteen.  The walk will be named 'A Walk for  Carly'. The aim of the walk is to raise funds for the Professional counselling service offered by Victim Support based in Wigan.  Victim Support has been supporting the family since this tragic event; this resulted in them requiring our Professional counselling service.  Having a professional counselling service available for Victims and families of serious crime is so crucial and in some circumstances can be life saving.  The service was lottery funded but sadly this has ceased, having learnt of this the Fairhurst family felt compelled to set up the Carly Fund to help keep the service alive for the people of Wigan.  To date they have raised over Twenty Seven Thousand Pounds.  The walk will also focus on the awareness of Domestic Violence.

 

Our hope is the day will involve all of the community and all the relevant agencies; we already have the press, TV, Radio, Fire and Police services on board, we have also just confirmed the local Wigan Jazz orchestra will come and start the day off. 

 

This page has therefore been set up to receive donations to this great cause. 

 

Further information will follow regarding how you can register for this event, should be decide to do the walk.  

 

This really will be a day to remember, a day when all of the people of Wigan come together to say no to Domestic Violence and supported this much needed counselling service for the victims of crime in Wigan.  

 

The walk will not only raise funds for the counselling service, but will focus on raising awareness of Domestic Voilence and breaking the cycle.  The day will bring together the community of Wigan and all the related agencies involved in Domestic Abuse.
