Story

24 Lake District peaks, all over 2,400 ft., in 24 hours!

UPDATE... The event took place on the 15th and 16th of August. All of the walkers started the walk at 5am and were disappointed to see that the weather was dire. There were 55mph winds, dense fog (20m visibility), constant heavy rain, and freezing temperatures. In fact the organisers were extremely hesitant about even letting the team go out. 24 teams arrived on the first day to take part in the challenge, and we were the only ones who went out.

The weather was constantly sustained over both days, and it got so worse half way through the 1st day that the entire team was ordered to come down the mountain due to the extreme danger the high winds, and low visibility posed. On the way down, however, the team had to wade through a freezing cold waist high overflown river.

Everyone returned on the second day and battled through similar conditions, until after a total of 19 hours of walking and 19 mountains climbed the team crossed the line, soaked through, and frozen cold. We were all delighted that we had been able to complete such a prestigious event in such impossible conditions, raising money for such a good cause in the process.

A group of 24 intrepid boys and parents from Welldon House, Tonbridge School, led by the indefatigable Mr Waite, are going to undertake the 24 Peaks Challenge - possibly the most physically demanding charitable fund raising event in the UK - on the 15/16 August.  We will be climbing Scafell, Helvellyn, Great Gable, Bowfell and many of the other highest mountains in the Lake District - all within 24 hours.

All donations received from this page will go to the Welldon House bursary fund, which is being set up to provide financial support for talented boys who would otherwise not be able to attend Tonbridge School.

Please give generously - every £ brings us closer to our £10,000 target!
