Story

VICTORY - We have now successfully completed the 2008 Bridlington to Blackpool Charity Bike Ride.

On the first day we were blessed with excellent weather, and despite a head wind, made it to Harrogate on schedule! Following an energy recharge of doughnuts and Lucozade at our Driffield site, we continued on through the historic town of Stamford Bridge to the site of the new Manor School in time for a spot of lunch. Here the Headmaster Brian Crosby kindly presentated a cheque of £1000 to our charities. The next leg took us through to Harrogate, where we stopped overnight, fuelling up for the final day with lots of pasta and chicken.

We set out early on the Saturday morning, conscious of the long ride ahead of us, over the Pennines! We again made good time and without the headwind managed to get to Blackpool an hour and a half ahead of schedule.

Despite some miserable weather dampening the last two legs into Blackpool, spirits remained high and following a comprehensive bicycle tour of the town, the finish line was crossed at the central pier. Once our challenge had been met, the festivities began, and the team partied alongside Blackpool's finest until the early hours.

We would ask that everyone has a final push to collect the last bit of sponsorship and ensure that we achieve our 30k target.

We would like to say a big thank you to all our charities, riders, support team, and sponsors for ensuring that this event was such a success and privilege to be involved with.

"Wates Construction has chosen and is delighted to support three major charities in the local area;  St Leonard's Hospice, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Martin House Children's Hospice.

St Leonard's Hospice provides palliative care at no cost to the patient or their families, to adults suffering from life-threatening illnesses, often - though not always - cancer.

Marie Curie Cancer Care provides high quality nursing totally free, to give people with terminal cancer and other illnesses the choice of dying at home supported by their families.

Martin House Children’s Hospice provides care and support to over 400 terminally-ill children and their families from across Yorkshire.  All services are provided free of charge to the families who visit.

All the money raised on this site will be divided equally between the three charities".

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: St Leonard's Hospice, Martin House Hospice and Marie Curie Cancer Care will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us now!

Many thanks for your support.
