We help provide support to disabled adults & children in Scotland

Story

We really appreciate you taking the time to look at our page.

As many of you will know, I work for an amazing service in Edinburgh called Westerlea Early Years which is an early learning support service for young children (0-5) with additional support needs in Edinburgh. This service is part of Capability Scotland.

All of our supports sessions try to introduce children to new and stimulating experiences through play.  We aim to encourage children to communicate in their own way, be creative, explore their environment, and experience the social aspect of play.

As the service’s only full time member of staff I am lucky enough to meet every family that comes through our door, hear all their different journeys and experiences of having a child with additional support needs and work with all their amazing children :)

Unfortunately funding is tight just now and although we can still provide our service we are running very low on resources such as toys, outdoor play equipment, arts and crafts materials, supportive seating, soft play etc and that is why I started looking into fundraising ideas.

Willie was really keen to help me raise money as he know how important the service is, although I must admit that I waited until he “had a few” before I told him we were going to do a skydive and now that he has agreed he can’t back out!! I'm lucky he is still talking to me haha :) He has been so supportive, such a good friend :) x

The tandem sky dive will take place on the 21st of August 2010 and as well as sponsoring us I hope that some of you will come to see the look of terror on our faces when we jump out that plane! AAAGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! :O  Willie's face will be priceless!! We will be purchasing a video of the event so everyone can have a giggle :-) x

UNFORTUNATELY WE WERE UNABLE TO DO OUR JUMP ON THE 21ST AS THE WIND WASNT RIGHT - WE WAITED FROM 815AM TILL 900PM IT WAS A LONG DAY AND WE WERE A LITTLE GUTTED ABOUT IT :( WE HAVE A NEW DATE - 11TH DEC BUT CAN PHONE UP IF THE WEATHER CHANGES DRAMATICALLY, WE WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED (EVEN MORE SCARED NOW THAT WE WATCHED SOME OF THEM FALL FROM THE SKY)

Once again, we were unable to do the skydive, this time because of the snow :( Our new date is the 9th April 2011!! We WILL be jumping out on that day even if I have to take the plane up myself :) fingers crossed. As most of you can see from my facebook page, we have started buying resources for the kids, please spread the word and keep that money coming. Thank you, it is very much appreciated xxx

Westerlea Early Years will receive all money raised so please dig deep and donate now.
