WE DID IT !!
ALL SIX OF US 'UGLY BOYS' STOOD ON UHURU PEAK - THE HIGHEST POINT IN AFRICA - AT 7:50AM ON THURSDAY OCTOBER 28.
THANKS SO MUCH EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND GOOD WISHES...
Beware the power of dreams from youth, mid-life crises, too many beers talking, and very understanding wives!
A motley assortment of IT and Finance 'professionals' - Andy, Mark, Shorty (Merrill Lynch), Pete (BP), Kuks (BT) and Rob (University of Life) - came together with a common dream: to go down the pub as often as possible on the pretext of planning a trek up Kili. Oh, and we wanted to raise some money for Cancer Research whilst we were at it!
The trip has been over a year in the planning - and now we've accomplished what will probably be the biggest physical challenge of our lives. Kili is a massive mountain - 19,341 feet - which took a full 6 days to climb. The summit day involved 16 hours of effort!
Many failed in their attempt to reach the top - the air at the summit only carries half the oxygen of what you're breathing now - in fact one of the other members of our party had to be evacuated down from the highest camp after suffering an 80% loss of his lung function (thankfully he's fine now).
But the trek was to support a cause that has probably touched all of our lives at one time or another so we gave it a go, and we were thinking of our families and friends every step of the way.
So thanks for braving our fundraising page. We dug deep to get up this thing - please dig deep and sponsor us. Some of our respective companies have also promised to add an amount depending upon the sum raised!
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. And we've paid for the trek ourselves, so EVERY PENNY you donate will go to Cancer Research UK.
So please sponsor us if you haven't already - and many thanks for your support!
