Story

Wienerberger Charity Cycle 2009: Lands End – John O’Groats

“Unless a man undertakes more than he can possibly do, he will never do all that he can” (Henry Drummond, Scottish Writer)

Welcome to our Just Giving page for the fantastic Derian House Children’s Hospice; please give generously to support our cause and help those less fortunate. For those of you unfamiliar with Derian House’s work, please check the lower left corner of this page, or view their website, www.derianhouse.co.uk.

As many of you may know, for personal ambition and fundraising purposes, Dan Oliver and Mike Stewart are aiming to complete a one thousand mile cycle in only ten days, heading from the southerly extreme of the country, Lands End, to the northernmost point, John O’Groats... on a tandem.

With regards to the tandem, picture this: one hundred miles per day, excessive calorie consumption, and sat directly behind the front cyclist. If you need a definition of courage and commitment, look no further.

Throughout our journey we will be accompanied by Lee Pauls who is aiming to complete “as much as possible”, and my father, Kevin Oliver, designated Campervan driver (and mechanic, cook, cleaner, drill sergeant, navigator).

The event has been entirely funded by our employers, Wienerberger Ltd (www.wienerberger.co.uk), Derian House Children’s Hospice and Diamond Joinery (www.diamondjoinery.co.uk), with a huge thanks going to each of them respectively for their time and effort injected to our cause.

For those interested, our route is made up of the following stages, including the Greater Manchester 10k we are entered in upon our return:

Tuesday 5th May: Drive to Home - Lands End

Wednesday 6th May: Lands End – Crediton

Thursday 7th May: Crediton – Chipping Sodbury

Please show your support and give generously. If you require further information about the event please do not hesitate to email daniel.oliver@wienerberger.com. It would be fantastic if people wanted to make individual arrangements to complete part, or all of a leg with us – the more support we have, the better our completion chances will be.

Many thanks for your support, and please give generously: we urge you to think of the scale of our efforts, and think of the unfortunate disabilities those less fortunate than ourselves are forced to live with.

The Wienerberger Team.

Dan Oliver, Mike Stewart, Lee Pauls and Kevin Oliver.
