Story
Here's to all the girls (and to Christian!) for all the fantastic fund raising that we have all done ... we have done remarkably well ... and we got around in a respectable time too, with all the team crossing the finishing line in under 8 hours!
So, for those of you who have not heard , the Moonwalk took place on May 15, and it was a marathon distance walk (26.2 miles), overnight through central London, starting and finishing in Hyde Park. The walk raises funds for breast cancer charities and all the walkers (no running is allowed!) wear fabulously decorated bras for all to see (men and our team included!!). I (Wendy) did the walk last year and it was an amazing experience and this year we had a team of 11 and we all crossed the finishing line! And, even though some of us had never done anything like this before, we all helped and finished in a very respectable time! Our Senior Bra Designers/Decorators were Georgie Nelson and Lesley Hanafi and we would like to thank them for all the support (ha ha!) they offered in helping us be the best dressed team on the night! We would also like to thank June, Philippa and Lee who koined the Moonwalk Team of official Volunteers and who were there ALL NIGHT helping the organisers and cheering on the 15,000 walkers!
Last year the Moonwalk helped raise over £8m and, taking into account the economic climate, that is pretty amazing. Now, more than ever, we need all your support, every amounty we can raise, no matter how much or how little, is vital in helping keep funding the charities and organizations involved in breast cancer research, support and care.
The website www.walkthewalk.org will give you all the details on this wonderful charity event which has now been running for 12 years and has raised over £46 million. Last year the walk was truly an incredible experience and I managed to raise over £2,000. This walk is especially important to all our team as many of us have close friends and family members who have had or still have breast cancer so please give as generously as you can.
With 1 in 8 women in the UK expected to experience some form of breast cancer and an increase in men also suffering breast cancer, it is a goal of Walk the Walk to encourage women and men to become fitter, healthier and to take more care of their well being.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Walk The Walk Worldwide gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So go on, sponsor Wiggy's Wonder Walkers now! Please!
