Story

How did we do?

It was epic. We finished back in Holmer Green just under 39 hours after we left. In that time we stopped off to congratulate the Year 6 children at Tylers Green Middle School on their successful charity week, rode 87 miles to Southampton, had a puncture, snapped a chain, chased to get on the ferry, walked a quarter of the way around the island to get to Shanklin, got very wet doing so, had an hour's shut eye on the beach, kayaked almost 6 hours without rest on a beautiful rolling sea to Freshwater Bay, had an amazing breakfast, walked via Tennyson Down and The Needles to Totland, raced again on our bikes to reach the another ferry, cut it fine, again, crossed to Southampton then cycled another 87 miles back to Holmer Green in time for last orders at The Old Oak and a great welcome home.

You can relive the challenge on our Twitter page here and if you haven't already done so we would love it if you made a donation to Newlife here on our JustGiving page to help us reach our target.

Very best wishes

Our 250-mile bike, hike and kayak in aid of Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children

Eight years ago a group of friends thought of an idea: to hike 80 miles around the Isle of Wight and raise money for charity. The idea had legs and two years later they did the same, stopping only to admire the view. In 2006 they got on their bikes and cycled 240 miles non-stop, down to the island, around it and back in a day. And in 2008 they took to the water, paddling 100 miles down the Thames without stopping.

Those ideas raised £4, £8, £16 and £32,000 for charity. Our final idea is to up that £60,000 and top £100,000. That idea is WightOut...

Starting on Friday 2 July we are going to bike, hike and kayak over 250 miles for Newlife Foundation for Disabled Children. Our fundraising target is £40,000, we look forward to your support and hope you’ll join us in having some fun along the way.

For more information on how you can get involved visit our website www.wightout.co.uk and follow us on Twitter.
