Story
I will be cycling from Vancouver, Canada to San Diego, U.S.A., a journey of approximately 3,000km. I will be travelling by myself taking everything i need with me. Whilst this will be quite an experience for me, I would like it to be beneficial to others too in terms of raising money and awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
Further details of my trip can be seen/followed at www.willgoeswandering.com.
I have decided to raise money and awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as this is a charity which is focused on completing much needed research into finding better and more effective treatments, improving the standard of care for those with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) as well as providing much needed support and advice for those with CF and ther families.
Details of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust can be seen at www.cysticfibrosis.org.uk.
If you do not know what cystic fibrosis is, in short it is an inherited disease caused by a faulty gene that you are born with, it can not be caught or develop. The gene in question controls the movement of salt and water in and out of your cells, ultimately resulting in the lungs & digestive system becoming clogged with mucus, making it hard to breathe and digest food.
There is no cure, and as such most people with CF do not live long lives, although as a result of improved treatment and care, half of those alive with CF today are expected to live past the age of 41.
I had a good friend Milly with CF, she was quite simply lovely and those of us that knew her miss her greatly. It was through the work undertaken by the CF Trust as well as great support from her family and her own personal drive that she was able to live a vibrant and exciting life until she died a few years ago.
Providing a donation today will help the CF trust to continue with the important research work they undertake as well as providing the support for those who have CF and care for them.
Thanks
