Story

This site is a tribute to John Simpson, also known as "Wimpey" who sadly passed away on the 11th of November, 2020.

John was born in Barnet on December 04, 1933 and then spent most of his life there. In fact he lived in the same house in Pepys Crescent until very recently when he moved to Billericay in Essex to stay with close family friend, Jackie.

His parents were Ada & Reg. He was a brother to Ron and his younger sister Joan.

He went to school at Byng Road school and then started his working life as a lorry driver at Harris the Builders before joining the Post Office. He remained there for the rest of his working life, initially starting on the postal round before later on moving on to the sorting room.

John loved football, starting out in the Byng Road Old Boys Football club with his brother Ron. We think his nickname of “Wimpy” came from his time playing football, but no one really seems to know how and why it came about. John was also a lifelong Chelsea fan.

A cool uncle, friend and carefree guy. Dearly missed.
