Jamie, Charlie and Martin Run for Ellie!
Fundraising for RETT UK
On the 11th July, we three will be running the ASICS British 10K Run on the streets of London for Ellie Gordon. Ellie is our friend Becky Gordon's little sister who was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome in the summer of 2009 at 11 years old.
Rett Syndrome is a rare neurological disorder, that affects mainly females and very few males; staggeringly every 5 hours a girl is born with Rett Syndrome. Although present at birth, it is usually undetected until major regression occurs at around one year of age, when children begin to lose acquired skills - this can be accompanied by distress and anxiety. We are running for the UK's largest Retts Charity, Rett UK, who's overall mission is to improve and enhance the quality of life for all people with Rett Syndrome, their families and their carers. As well as supporting those affected, the charity aims to raise awareness of this rare condition, as well as promoting and encouraging research into the genetic, therapeutic and social aspects of Rett Syndrome - and crucially towards an eventual cure.A message from Becky Gordon:
"My little sister has the degenerative, severe neurological disorder that is Rett syndrome. Therefore she cannot communicate, walk, feed herself or do any of the things we all take for granted, and also the abilities she has at the moment, she will most likely lose over time. But she still has her personality, and anyone who sees her pretty little smile or hears her contagious laugh ends up giggling to themselves as well! Please dig deep and help us reach our target!
