Story
This year, I’ve decided to do something a little different for charity. Instead of just partaking in a single event and trying to raise money – I’ve decided to do several events…mostly involving obstacles/running/intense levels of mud etc.
I’m doing this insane task for Alzheimer Scotland. Anyone who has had contact with this terrible condition will know that it’s a hideous disease to be around.
You watch your loved ones simply fade away; becoming something else entirely; housed in a shell of the person you used to know. It’s something that’s very difficult to be around and something that no-one should go through alone.
It takes £10,000 a day to help fund the vital work. Hopefully, I’ll be able to add a bit of cash to the pot as it were!
Your donation will help:-
provide a network of Dementia Advisors across Scotland to support people with dementia, their families and carers and work with local communities to make them more dementia-friendly.
fund a Dementia Nurse post jointly with the Scottish Government in every health board in Scotland to lead vital improvements in dementia care.
provide the freephone 24-hour Dementia Helpline (0808 808 3000)
fund the Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Research Centre in partnership with the University of Edinburgh
campaign for the rights of people with dementia.
So – what I’m doing, a series of mud runs and obstacle courses mainly!
As yet – these are the current and potential ones I’m doing/aiming to do.
· Tough Mudder (http://toughmudder.com/) Scotland, possibly Dublin and Yorkshire.
· The Major Series (http://www.majorseries.com/) Scotland.
· The Beast Race (http://www.beastrace.co.uk/), Scotland.
· Men’s Health Survival of the fittest (http://www.mhsurvival.co.uk/) , Scotland and possibly Cardiff or Nottingham.
· Whole Hog Challenge, Scotland
· Plus others to be decided.
With these challenges, I’ll be exposed to long distances, lots of climbing, crawling, electrocution, fire, paintball guns to name a few. The links above should give some indication to the horror I face!
I’ve already started training hard for this, so please donate what you can; to help with the dire condition and make sure that my pain - is not in vain! The sponsor link is www.justgiving.com/WoodyratmTM2014
