THE BACKGROUND

The Bracken Trust Cancer Support Centre is a unique centre
that provides information, advice, support, counselling and complimentary
therapies for those affected by cancer. This includes patients, their relatives
and close friends.

They are funded by charitable donations and these have been
hit hard since COVID-19 due to most fundraising events being cancelled.

MY STORY

I don't generally publicly share my personal life but I felt that this is a time when I should.......

Last summer I had a lot going on and was hugely
stressed....made redundant, closing up the business I worked for, finding a house to buy, moving and setting up my Zenjo Zentangle teaching business.
www.zenjo.uk

On top of all this just 4 days before moving I noticed some worrying health signs and symptoms. I immediately saw my doctor who sent me for an urgent referral. After some urgent tests and investigations I was told that I had the early signs of Bowel Cancer.

Cue shock, upset, fear, anxiety and increased stress to the point where I was pretty much a mess!! Tearful, not sleeping, mind whirring and feeling very much alone.

I had to wait to see the consultant but my GP (doctor) suggested I seek out a mindfulness course.

Bear in mind that I teach a creatively mindful art form and support others who have times of stress......but I needed to have the support myself.

I knew of the Bracken Trust and thought that they might be able to tell me who could help. I walked in one afternoon in August, spoke to Janice, one of the nurses and immediately burst in to tears. She was fantastic and took me to a quiet area, talked and got me enrolled for counselling and mindfulness training. I was also able to access any of their complimentary therapies.......all for free!!

They are AMAZING!

Since then I have regularly been to the centre and have benefited hugely from what they gave me and continue to give. There is no request for money as they are funded completely from charitable donations.

Thankfully, after some relatively minor treatment I am physically fine and have been given the all clear....as long as I have regular check ups.

PLEASE make a donation to help support their valuable work.
