West Sussex Golf Club 100 Hole Golf Challenge 2022 in aid of Breathe Magic, run by Breathe Arts Health Research.

Story

10 years ago, a small group of golfers from West Sussex Golf Club played 100 holes in a day to raise money for charity. Over the following 5 years, they increased the challenge so that in the last year, they played over 200 holes in a 24 hour period. This was to be their last hurrah. However, Russell Barton who came up with the initial idea and played in every challenge sadly passed away this year and another regular player, Patrick Curry succumber to Covid. So, some of the original team decided to do it again and open it out to the broader membership of the club and play for the Barton trophy. This year, fifty six golfers will attempt to play 100 holes of golf at the West Sussex Golf Club on Sunday 26th June in aid of two charities - Worthing Breast Cancer Trust and Breathe Arts Health Research - in support of Viv Crabb and Roger Curtis who are the Club Captains this year. The golfers will start at first light (4.15am) and play until they have completed 100 holes with trophy being awarded to the winning team. This will be a tough assignment and your support through donations to the two charities would be fantastic. Good luck to all golfers taking part! The Worthing Breast Cancer Trust is part of The Sussex Cancer Fund which was created in 1981 by consultant oncologists Dr Deutsch, Dr Hodson and Dr Murrell. Originally called the Sussex Cancer Treatment Fund, the charity progressed to include the funding and development of research programmes and later became known as the Sussex Cancer Fund for Treatment and Research. Now named the Sussex Cancer Fund, the goals of the fund are to work hand in hand with the NHS to give every cancer patient in Sussex the best available treatment and facilities.More information can be found at www.sussexcancerfund.co.ukBreathe Magic is part of Breathe Arts Health Research and is one of their flagship programmes for young people with hemiplegia. Hemiplegia is a weakness or paralysis affecting one side of the body caused by an injury to the brain. Breathe Magic is a well-researched therapy programme where children, aged between 7-19, learn specially selected magic tricks designed to help improve the use of their affected hand and arm, through learning to become a Young Magician.  This innovative programme brings together renowned Magic Circle magicians to work alongside occupational therapists, creating a fantastic fusion of magic and occupational therapy. The world-class Magic Circle magicians we work with teach magic tricks and performance skills to the children attending our Magic Camps with the aim of developing motor and bimanual (two-handed) skills and enhancing independence, confidence and self-esteem. More information can be found at breatheahr.org
