Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

3 rather unfit dads’ who haven’t been in a boat for many years have all decided to take up a gruelling rowing challenge. They all work for HSBC Bank plc.

The route follows the River Lea, the and part of the . It totals 42 miles and takes in 29 locks and two long tunnels. The route runs from Hertford to Northolt and they hope to complete it in four days, collecting funds as they go. To raise vital funds for The Shooting Star Children's Hospice who provide care, support and advice for children with life limiting conditions and their families.

Please, please do give anything you can from 50p to £50 or more, you really will be making a difference to a family dealing with unimaginable circumstances.

We have already received tremendous assistance and have begged and borrowed most of what we need, together with HSBC Bank plc generously allowing us the time to complete the challenge.

Monday 30th August - We shall set up camp with our tents which will become our new homes with sleeping bags and blow up beds for us to get a good nights sleep!

Day 2 Tuesday 31st August - from Hertford to Broxbourne taking approx 6 hours and 30 minutes, covering 9 miles on our first day with 7 locks to contend with each taking at least 15 minutes.

Day 3 another long day ahead, Broxbourne to Springfield Marina covering 12.5 miles over 8 hours and 45 minutes and 10 locks, and a drink to finish up the day.

Day 4 Springfield Marina to Little Venice covering 11.5 miles, 9 locks and a long tunnel to contend with whereby we have to hitch a lift! Taking approx 8 hours and 45 minutes.

Day 4 Friday 3rd September and the last leg from Little Venice to Willowtree Marina covering 9.5 miles, 0 locks and taking appox 4 hours 45 minutes and challenge 3 Dad's in a Boat completed. Yippeee!!!!!!

You are invited to join us along the way and especially at the end to enjoy a celebratory drink or two at the Willowtree Marina, Quayside Bistro & Wine Bar, UB4 9TB from 5.00pm, So please do come along and cheer us home and join in the fun.

£5 could pay for a telephone call when a family just needs to talk. £50 could pay for a session of music therapy which is used to support children struggling with turbulent emotions. £100 could pay for a pre or post bereavement counselling session for a parent, which provides them with coping mechanisms to help them deal with their unimaginable circumstances. £500 could provide a family with a support worker for one week. £1000 could provide an emergency doctor on call for 24 hours a day 7 days a week for one week, providing emergency care for a child. £5,000 could provide the siblings with support for one year; siblings are often the most severely effected and the groups provide fun experiences, sense of belonging, camaraderie and a place where they can talk.

This is such a worthwhile cause and the 3 of us would not be risking sinking, sun burn or frostbite depending on the weather, not to mention blisters and fatigue, together with sleepless nights in the tent, if we did not think we could make a difference. So please help us.
