Fundraising for Breast Cancer Care
We seem to be making the climb to the top of a bi-annual event. Inspired by the courage of friends and colleagues diagnosed with breast cancer, past & present, our aim is to raise as much money as we can for Breast Cancer Care. On the last 2 occasions 2006 & 2008 you were very generous in both sponsoring our climb and helping with raffle prizes; ‘wear pink to work’ and baking for our now infamous Wrightington ‘Cake Days’.
The charity ‘Breast Cancer Care’ is an organisation dedicated to delivering information and support to both men and women, partners, families and friends with breast cancer concerns – for those who fear they may have breast cancer and helping with the practical impact of a diagnosis, supporting people coping with the side effects of treatment and offering advice to women coming to terms with a changed body image. Given these facts, the ‘great unfit’have decided to endeavour to climb on the 3rd October 2010 – Jane Senior & Gill Heddon (seasoned climbers from Wrightington) and Dawn Joyce, Margaret Markland & Carol Crook (novices from RAEI). Ben Nevis is a gruelling 4410 ft Munroe – it is a 1 in 5 gradient on the ‘easy bits’ and heavily strewn with large boulders at the higher reaches. You need to drink 4 litres of water en route, all of which you carry on your back and you need to eat little and often, although breathing, climbing and eating is an almost-impossible feat. It is roughly a 10 hr trek. Jane, Gill, Dawn, Margaret & Carol have pledged to raise a minimum of £2,500 for ‘Breast Cancer Care’ – but we would love, with your help to raise much more than this.* Charities pay a small fee for our service. Find out how much it is and what we do for it.
