Pedal for Scotland 2015 · 6 September 2015 ·

We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and to raise awareness.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Every Saturday at exactly 8.01am, a group of cyclists leave Dalmeny Station for a ride around central Scotland.  There are no rules, no joining fees and we're not a club.  We like hills and cake, but mostly cake.  Most days we usually find time to stop for a coffee too. We're old enough to know better, but we do our bit to keep fit and occasionally raise money for charity. It's not about the bike, it's about the banter.

In January 2015 one of our members was diagnosed with UC. Despite an encouraging early prognosis, he was soon facing major surgery. Over the last 6 months his health has improved and he has so far avoided a colostomy. Recently, he has started riding his bike again and annoying the rest of the 801ers with his very poor banter.

Not everyone is as lucky as our pal. UC is a terrible disease - there's no cure and the symptoms are potentially life threatening. Funds are needed to help relieve the emotional and physical effects.
