We provide wheelchairs and equipment to improve lives of young wheelchair users

Story

Hello Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have decided to run the London Marathon 2010 on behalf of Whizz Kidz because it is charity that makes an incredible difference to the lives thousands of disabled children around the country.  By providing them with customised mobility equipment, training, advice and life skills, Whizz-Kidz strives to give disabled children and young people the independence to enjoy an active childhood – at home, at school and at play.

Consequently, and most importantly, it gives them the confidence to be themselves and therefore makes an immediate and life changing difference to their lives and their families. Whizz-Kidz' is focused on meeting the special needs of children and young people with mobility impairments. It provides them and their families with: Mobility equipment, manual and recreational equipment, to give young disabled people the independence to enjoy a more active childhood.

Wheelchair skills training For young wheelchair users up to the age of 18, wheelchair skills training furthers young people’s independence by teaching them how to get the most from their wheelchair, be safe when out and about and in turn have more fun! Advice and Information gives families with disabled children the information and guidance they need to ensure their child gets the right help. Life skills Young disabled people are involved in the work that Whizz-kidz does and, as a result, they gain essential life skills such as work experience to further their self- confidence and support their transition into adulthood.

Whizz-Kidz campaigns for children with disability to raise awareness of the issues affecting young disabled people and to highlight the need for change to decision makers. Their current campaign is calling on the Government to ensure that all disabled children have access to the right mobility equipment at the right time. Whizz Kidz focuses on each disabled child’s individual needs, taking into account their clinical, social, educational and developmental needs - all of which are important in any young person’s life. Being independent and in control of when and where you want to go takes young disabled people from isolation to inclusion and gives them the chance to enjoy a more active childhood and realise their true potential.

Disabled children have virtually no chance of getting a powered wheelchair on the NHS and the service Whizz Kidz provides therefore has an enormous impact on young people’s lives.  Since Whizz-Kidz was set up in 1990 the charity has changed the lives of over 4,500 young disabled people and has become the UK’s leading children’s mobility charity. As you can see, Whizz Kidz is an extremely worthwhile charity that makes visible differences on a daily basis.
