Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have signed up to take part in the Vitality Reading Half Marathon on Sunday 3rd April 2016 in order to take on my own personal challenge. As a beginner runner, I wanted to experience the marathon.

More importantly, I wanted to take this great opportunity to support Sickle Cell Society UK charity by fundraising and sharing the SCD story that is affecting many and some close to me.
Sickle Cell Disorder (SCD) is a condition which is inherited from both parents.

“In the UK, about 12,500 people have SCD. It is more common in people whose family origins are African, African-Caribbean, Asian or Mediterranean. On average, 1 in 2,400 babies born in England have SCD, but rates are much higher in some urban areas - about 1 in 300 in some places. SCD is now one of the most common inherited (genetic) conditions in babies born in the UK.”

Please support me in raising funds for The Sickle Cell Society UK in their quest to provide right quality of care, research, information, raise awareness and many more to sufferers! Feel free to read through their webpage http://sicklecellsociety.org/.  Please give generously and any amount, however little, or large, will be greatly appreciated, thank you!
