Story
I have been fundraising for the Royal Free Charity and have raised funds to buy Accuveins for their paediatric departments and this project is spreading to other hospitals.
To cut a long story short, many Paediatric A&E departments do not have an Accuvein vein illuminator which assists in locating veins for blood work and to insert cannulas. This is particularly helpful with paediatrics to help the staff find the best vein on the first try and I have seen a similar gadget in use in Great Ormond Street.
This device really could make a difference and when I was with my son in A&E in December '15, I emailed the manufacturer from the A&E cubicle. After further conversations with the Royal Free and Q Medical Technologies I decided to fundraise so that an Accuvein illuminator machine can be purchased to help future paediatric patients. The minimum needed to purchase one and the hands free trolley is over £3,700.
When I first started fundraising last year, I set out to do something for one local hospital. I have inadvertently now been involved in helping nearly 4 hospitals secure at least 1 Accuvein for their Paediatric A&E department. The Royal Free and Barnet Paediatric A&E's now have one each, the Children's Ward in the Royal Free has one and one will shortly be purchased for the Paediatric Outpatients department. As a result of my fundraising campaign another mother has fundraised for 2 Accuveins for the Whittington Paediatric A&E and Children's Ward.
I have been asked by the Homerton to set up this page to secure an Accuvein for the Homerton Paediatric A&E department and I am fundraising together with Efrayim Goldstein.
The Accuvein saves precious time and reduce distress in emergencies and has also been shown to reduce infection rates due to accuracy.
We hope you will be supportive and assist us in trying to help even more of our local children.
