We provide emotional and practical support to families with a seriously ill child.

Story

My 18 month old nephew Fraser was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma when he was just 5 months old. ( Neuroblastoma is a life threatening childhood cancer which affects the nervous system). Fraser’s treatment which entailed chemotherapy, stem cell replacement and surgery, began straight after he was diagnosed and continued for 12-months. Initially his treatment was proving a success and the future was looking positive; however in May this year Fraser was re-admitted into hospital as a Neuroblastoma tumour had developed on his brain. This has been successfully removed and Fraser is about to undergo radiotherapy treatment.

My sister in law Sam was introduced to Dawn, a Family Support Worker for Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity through the staff at . Dawn has given Sam’s family invaluable support throughout Fraser’s illness and treatment. She regularly drives Sam & Fraser to hospital appointments and spends quality time with Fraser’s 3 year old brother Oscar, taking him for days out and giving Sam the freedom and peace of mind to care for Fraser.
Having Dawn available to help Sam with the boys has allowed Gavin her husband to continue going to work as usual which would not have been possible without Rainbow’s support.

As well as the teams of Family Support Workers, Rainbow Trust has an amazing respite house in Bookham, . Families can go and stay at the house and make the most of having everything done for them, so that they can truly relax and spend some proper time together. Sam, her husband Gavin, Fraser and Oscar are going to Rainbow house this summer and needless to say, they’re really looking forward to the break.

In support of this amazing charity I am going to cycle with 2 colleagues from the Sytner Group from Edinburgh our most northern dealership to Portsmouth in the South over 6 days from 13 – 18 September covering approximately 520 miles and 22460ft of Ascent.
Rainbow Trust needs your help more than ever in this financial climate so they can continue to support more families like Sam’s. Your support has never been so important, so please dig deep and donate now.

Donate through JustGiving it's simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
