Story
I have always seen charity as an individual act, as deeds to be carried out with discretion. So running, climbing up a mountain or cutting your hair and broadcasting this to whole wide world appeared to me as
alien concept.
However being now in my
forties I have also learnt to be more pragmatic and raising money collectively
certainly has a bigger impact on the cause at Heart. So I signed up to the
Sheffield Half-marathon, initially as mid-life crisisers must do but more importantly to help raise money for Assist (http://www.assistsheffield.org.uk/) who fight against destitution.
I came to know assist through my friend Richard Hanson
who was very instrumental in running the
night shelter for destitute asylum seekers, and to whom I would like to pay tribute (http://www.tearfund.org/en/latest/2014/08/remembering_richard_hanson/
).
Thank you so much for your support. I will
think of you proudly as I bravely pound the pavement.
