We fund ground breaking medical research to improve the lives of women and babies

Story

Women’s health remains chronically underfunded and neglected with issues like heavy menstrual bleeding, endometriosis, infertility, miscarriage and menopause having a devastating physical and emotional impact on millions of people. There is a huge disparity in health care between men and women, and it’s important that this disparity is recognised and changed.

I will be running the London Landmark Half Marathon in April 2024, and raising money for Wellbeing of Women, which is a small charity committed to advancing ground-breaking research, providing expert information and campaigning for better treatment, care, and support.

Numerous women in my family, including my mum, have suffered as a result of a lack of urgency and knowledge when it comes to women’s health, for example not being taken seriously by doctors and put on numerous waiting lists which lead to unfulfilled promises. My mum lived with chronic menstrual and lower abdomen pain for numerous years, and although she suffered constant bleeding, low mood, and even as far as a cancer scare, this was batted off with ‘it’s just the menopause’ and ‘it will pass eventually’. After finally receiving an Endometriosis and Adenomyosis diagnosis, and put on several medications to help combat the symptoms, my mum finally made the decision to go private and have a hysterectomy late last year. Fortunately, this was a viable option for my mum, but this isn’t the case across the board for many women, particularly from a fertility and financial perspective. It was upsetting to witness my mum go through years of discomfort and pain, with numerous medications and hospital appointments, with no positive outcome. If there was a better understanding of women’s gynaecological health, and more awareness of the menopause and endometriosis from both a personal and medical level, I don’t doubt that my mum’s journey would not have been as tiresome and as painful.

I really want to raise as much as I can for this amazing charity, so please donate as little or as much as possible. If you’d like to find out more info on Wellbeing of Women, visit the website here wellbeingofwomen.org.uk.

There’s no going back now! Wish me luck 🏃🏽‍♀️
