Story

Written by Kate & Jeff Burnett, Ali's Mum & Dad.

Our wonderful Alastair was born on 22nd October 2003. When he was eight months old he was diagnosed with a rare skin condition known as Juvenile Xantho Granulomas which showed as orange spots on his skin. Several years later he became ill with a rare form of leukaemia called JMML. After a long and hard battle he died at home on 20th December 2009. He was six years old.

Alastair was a clever, sweet natured boy. As well as being quick-witted and funny, he also showed a deep understanding about life for someone so young. He was amazingly brave and strong and as a family we drew strength from him. We miss him terribly all the time and our lives will never be the same again.

In memory of Ali, ten Mums of children in Alastair's first class at school are running ten kilometres on 6th November 2010. Their aim is to raise as much money as possible for two worthy causes, firstly for leukaemia research in order to help find a cure for this awful disease. Secondly, to go towards a new gazebo to be built in Alastair's name at the school that he attended. This will be a permanent structure to be used by all classes. You can choose which cause you would like to donate to.

We wish all of you much luck and happy running. You are doing this for Alastair and we thank you very much. He would be very proud of you all. Ali's Big Run.10 women, 10k, it's just the way we roll.'

The runners are...

Claire, Emma, Emma, Sharon, Liz, Maria, Kirstie, Karen, Melissa & Venita.

We're running for a great cause and in memory of a very special little boy who touched the lives of us all.
