Story
I was all prepared to undertake the 1300 mile journey from John O’Groats to Lands End on the National Cycling Network in May and June this year.
My foster child, 3 grown up children were my crew: the route, accommodation, training, Just Giving page, even the use of a tandem had all been organised and planned in fine detail.
We wanted to raise funds for Tailor Ed Foundation who are filling a big gap in service provision in Edinburgh and East Lothian for children and young people with autism and their families. Tailor Ed has totally transformed daily life for my foster daughter and me: its invaluable and we just want to show our appreciation.
Tailor Ed Foundation is a small, independent charity committed to improving the quality of life for children with autism and their families. "We offer a home based service, where we teach practical skills and provide useful strategies tailored to your child and family. This service is available free of charge to families with a child with autism from the age of 4 to 16, living in the City of Edinburgh. We target practical skills, from getting dressed and toileting, to brushing teeth and going to bed, as well as most things in between."....... Tailor Ed have been instrumental in developing a personalised communication system for my foster child.
IN MARCH 2020 COVID-19 STRUCK AND WE’VE ALL BEEN IN
LOCKDOWN SINCE THEN.
All my plans were in tatters as it is clearly not safe to attempt such an ambitious challenge in these extraordinary times.
I could have put my plans away until next years: we are still determined to carry out this challenge, but that’s not me!
I am passionate about supporting Tailor Ed who are doing an amazing job supporting over 100 children and young people with autism and their families get through this crisis.
On Saturday 6th June 2020, I have decided along with Tailor Ed staff, to organise Linda’s Virtual All Abilities Cycle Challenge I am inviting friends, families, supporters, and anyone else to donate “cycle miles” to my challenge.
As Linda’s Team lets see how far we can get virtually cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End.
Miles can be donated from a bike ride round your neighbourhood, on static bikes on training stands in your garden, sitting room, bedroom or even kitchen, or on exercise bike spin sessions.
As this is an all ability challenge anyone can take part: register for this fun event on www.tailoredfoundation.co.uk
Let’s beat COVID-19 and help me achieve my goal to support Tailor Ed Foundation.
The next year I am even more determined to do the full cycle!
Keep safe and well................sign up to join us on the 6th June
