Having hardly ever consulted a doctor throughout my adult life, I considered myself pretty fit and healthy. So it came as a bit of a shock to be diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in July last year. The only reason I had decided to make an appointment with my doctor was the constant badgering by my wife to have my prostate checked, for which I am now extremely grateful. I had no symptoms apart from visiting the loo more often in the middle of the night. ‘A sign of old age.’ I kept telling myself.

          The early diagnosis and the care and professionalism of the staff at the UCAN centre were key to isolating the cancer to the prostate and its successful removal. 

Nine months later I’ve set myself the task of raising some money to help facilitate the installation of a further Robotic Assisted Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy system (RALRP for short). This was a crucial element that enabled a quick recovery. 

The plan is to cycle round Scotland using coastal routes. On this jolly jape I'll be joined by my brother Bryan, another PIL (Pensioner in Lycra) and our respective long suffering wives Maureen and Sandra (Our Support Team). The trip will cover over 1300 miles circumnavigating the East and West coasts and the Borders. The tour will begin in Dyce Aberdeen on the 10th of July and we should return on the 4th of August.
