We organise disaster relief worldwide to be there for people in desperate need

Story

According to the UN OHCA:

  • 864,00 people in remote areas are still in need of immediate assistance
  • ~ 1,000,000 children’s schools have been severely damaged or destroyed.
  • The monsoon has now commenced hampering even further already difficult to reach regions and flooding and destroying temporary accommodation for many communities.

Rebuilding the communities and lives affected will take many years, yet despite this being the worst natural disaster to hit one of the poorest countries in the world it has rapidly slipped from public consciousness. However the human tragedy and need continues unabated.

strong>UPDATE: I wanted to add that Nepal has just been hit by a second big earthquake. The people there are really struggling. Disease is starting to break out and human traffickers are taking homeless women and children into the sex trade. All donations go immediately to Nepal so please don't hesitate!

I don’t think anybody could be unmoved by what we’ve seen on the television from Nepal this week.

There are over 5000 dead, with thousands still missing.

There are over 1000 European trekkers and climbers still unaccounted for.

Most of the country’s infrastructure has been destroyed.

Our family knows some Nepalese people, who are all so humble and nice. The ones we know are worried about their families at home.

It has to be the worst thing that I’ve ever seen and so I’ve decided to Climb for Nepal, to raise some funds for the Disasters Emergency Committee Appeal.

After the end of term I’m going to do 'Our Five Peaks Challenge’.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Peaks_Challenge

I’m going to climb the five biggest national mountains in the UK and Ireland - that's 5 peaks and 1600 miles (admittedly not in 48 hours - more like a week!)

  1. Ben Nevis (Scotland)
  2. Scafell Pike (England)
  3. Snowdon (Wales)
  4. Slieve Donard (Northern Ireland)
  5. Carrauntoohil (Republic of Ireland)

Their combined height is 17,400 ft., almost the same height as Everest Base Camp.

Wish me luck, and thank you for all your support,

Jamie Bell-Thomas
