In the East, children travel 90 miles on average to access the cancer treatment they need. Families travel up to 200 times during treatment. Sadly, many can't afford the travel costs and don't get support. We want to change that for good.

Story

Hello,

My name is Amélia and I'm 10 years old.

On average, in the UK, an adult reads 15 books per year. So, I'll be reading 100 books in one year or less. That's one book every 3 days!

And no, I won't be reading small books. My 100 titles will all be over 100 pages long and my list includes classics like "The Hobbit", "The Chronicles of Narnia" and "Watership Down".

Every time I finish reading a book, I'll post here a short blurb about the story I've just read.

I'm doing this because I care so much about the work done by the charity my dad founded. Please Take Me There helps children with cancer and their families to travel for treatment.

So if you can, please donate and help!

Please Take Me There

Getting to cancer treatment is a serious challenge for many families. This is why. There are only 19 hospitals in the UK best equipped to diagnose and treat young people with cancer. In the East of England, children with cancer and their families travel on average 90 miles.

Some families travel over 100-mile round trips each time they need to come to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. It costs many families hundreds of pounds each month just to get their children to and from their hospital appointments. Costs like fuel, car parking, car maintenance, train and bus tickets and taxi fares.

Many children travel up to 200 times to hospital over a period of two to three years. Only a small minority receives help.A small and volunteer-led charity based in Cambridge has been helping families since 2015. Now, they are planning to set up a transport service to help families travel to and from treatment appointments. Help me support this much-needed project for our region.

We’re working to create a dedicated transport service for children with cancer in the UK. Through research and the trialling of new solutions, we want to transform how children get to medical care, while supporting their families through some of the most challenging times.
