If Shakira can throw a virtual party to fundraise and Maria Aunty can too I don’t see why I can’t…
My first ever birthday is on the 18th May 2015 when I am going into the next stage of my life as a toddler. In this very precious moment of my life, my Mom decided to throw a virtual party as my birthday present to help people in distress due to the catastrophic Earthquake that happened in Nepal just 6 days ago. While I was born in Britain my roots are still in Nepal, though I have not seen Nepal yet for real, I can see from my Mom’s face when she looks at me with her eyes filled with many stories yet to tell and feel from Dad’s heartbeat when he hugs me tight. For me Nepal is still as beautiful as my Mom used to dream about when I was in her tummy...but now will I able to see the dream that she shared with me??
So many have lost their lives which cannot be returned, but the people who survived will they have a home to live in? Temples, monasteries, landmarks which we lost, can they be re-erected? Will I be able to see the lost history when I grow older!!!
My Mom believes that if I start building a sense of social responsibility and start giving from an early stage of my life, that I will surely be able to see my beautiful Nepal exactly how I dreamt and even better than when I was young.
I know my Mom has not asked my permission to use my gift for this purpose as I am too small to speak and even give my views, but a few years down the line I will be very proud that Mom did that for me, as without her I could not do this myself.
So all my aunties, uncles, cousins and anyone who knows me from my Mom and Dad and the people just reading this by chance I’d like to invite you all to my virtual birthday party. Instead of providing cake, drinks and nibbles I am donating in support of the distress of the Nepalese people. If you were going to get me a gift, a teddy, a dress, walker, even a gift card or cash please donate that money to DEC. I will be very grateful and treasure this as my invaluable gift from you for the rest of my life!!!
Thank you everyone. Ameya Shrestha (now 11 months and 2 weeks)
