Story
Hey there folks .. I'm training at the moment to complete the Great Scottish Run at the end of September. This is my very first half marathon and I would like to use this event as an opportunity to raise funds for a charity which is very special to me.
St Margaret’s Children and Family Care Society is a registered Charity and Voluntary Adoption Agency in Scotland. They were initially founded in 1955 as an adoption society, to support children and families in need throughout the UK. Since then they have developed their services to include education services and a therapy centre offering support to adopted children and their families.
Our relationship with St Margaret's began when we started the process in April 2012 to adopt our daughters. The process took only 9 months, from prep group to our girls coming home with us, this is considerably less time than it would take adopting through a local authority which can take years. On the day of my 40th birthday we received paperwork which told us about a potential match for us, 2 girls aged 2 and 4, it was the best birthday present I could ever have imagined! Our social worker was extremely flexible and always there for us and we received a huge amount of support and training.
The story doesn't end for adoptive families after the children come home though, in most circumstances the children may have difficulty adjusting and settling within their new families. We have attended peer support groups, training workshops and our oldest daughter attended Play Therapy sessions for two years. They also have movie days and outings for the kids, regular gatherings to keep the connection and the lines of communication open.
As they are a charity they would not be able to provide the services and support that they offer. Please dig deep and support my fundraising for them!!
