Story
Dear friends
I have decided to do a sponsored golf marathon on the 21st July to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and attempt to walk 4 rounds of golf in a single day at Wychwood Park Golf Club.
I will be accompanied by friends in a buggy, who will be carrying my golf clubs and providing me with food and drink and moral support.
Most of you will know that Wychwood is a fairly long course measuring 5618 yards off the red tees, which from the first to the last will only be 3.2 miles, That said, golfers rarely hit in a straight line and with my standard of golf each round is unlikely to be less than 4/5 miles at best. I have calculated that for me to even come close to achieving this, I will need to get a lift between some of the longer holes (from green to the next tee) on the buggy.
I will be starting at 5.30 am in order to get the rounds in and will of course be relying on the goodwill of those playing that day to allow me quick passage through. I hope to be finished at approximately 9pm.
I will keep things simple and stick to a Stableford score, so will pick up if I cannot score and just keep walking….
I am of course relying on your generosity to make this possible and the pain worthwhile!
My husband Martin, thinks I am completely mad but it was his fight with cancer and the support we received from Macmillan, that made me choose this for my charity in 2015.
Thanks to DeVere and the pro shop for allowing this to happen and providing me with buggies throughout the day but mostly I want to thank you all for the support and encouragement, I know you will give.
Pray for a dry day , as I only have one set of waterproofs!
