This is to those kind  folk who  very kindly sponsored me and Nicky last year in our 64 mile ride to Blackpool in order to raise money for the
“Wellspring” ( www.thewellspring.co.uk). This year I am accompanied by my fellow volunteer ( Max Christian). If you remember, Nicky was abandoned by
his mom at the age of 4 and after living a life in care/institutions etc ended up in goal. After being released from goal he found his way to the “Well” where I got to know him about 3 years ago.  For
reasons which I do not know /understand, as coming as we do from such totally different backgrounds we get on really well.

Nicky and I did the ride together last year, when we passed the finishing line he was in tears (he had finally done something positive in his life). Whilst we were waiting for the transport back to Manchester he apologised to me for crying at the finish. I did remind him that 9 months previously I was visiting him in hospital following a failed suicide attempt. That made him think a bit.

You may well ask why Nicki is not riding with us to
Blackpool again. Actually I never asked him, as Nicky now has a job, a home, access to his children and a totally different life to the one he had few years
ago. I am sure that in the future he will join us again for our ride as he does know what the “Well” has done for him, and he does still enjoy cycling. He visited me and my wife in Hayfield a few weeks ago, we all took our dogs for a lovely walk and had a really nice chat with him.His life has changed forever( I am convinced of that). I look on him as a true friend.

So, why not help to change someones life. Maybe you can help another “Nicky”
