Story
In 2017 I have decided to run 100KM in multiple sponsored runs to raise funds for this amazing organisation. The first one being the Manchester Half Marathon on May 28th!
Vasculitis UK have been a great help for my sister Paula who has a severe type of Vasculitis, Hypocomplementemic Urticarial Vasculitis Syndrome (HUVS). HUVS is a very rare strand and has some overlaps with the more familiar Lupus.
Little is known about Vasculitis and it can be confused with many other diseases, this meant it took Paula’s GP and specialists a couple of years to diagnose properly. Although there is no cure as such, the disease can be managed into remission by immunosuppressant drugs and helped by living a carefully managed life. Getting the disease into remission is very important as progression to effecting the major organs is common.
There are approx 2,000 - 3,000 people diagnosed with Vasculitis each year and as GPs often are ill informed or don’t have the time to manage a long time disease, the support and advice Vasculitis UK contributes is invaluable.
Over the last few years the Vasculitis Trust has been a great help for Paula and many other people who use the specialists and volunteers who run the service.
I am aiming to raise £6,000 to which my employer will contribute a further £4,000 through a matching program!
Many thanks for supporting me in raising funds for Vasculitis UK!
