They can strike at any age but young people are most at risk. Around 240,000 people (1 in 250) in the UK have these conditions. IBD tends to flare up and down unpredictably, and symptoms can include urgent diarrhoea, bleeding, incontinence, severe pain, exhaustion, eye, skin and joint problems and in the case of children, impaired growth. Unsurprisingly, the conditions can have a devastating impact on education, work, social and family life.</span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; line-height: 140%;"><span style="color: #1c1c1c; font-family: Tahoma;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">NACC is the major UK charity offering support to people affected by these conditions, campaigning for better healthcare and funding vital research.</span></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; line-height: 140%;">&nbsp;</p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; line-height: 140%;"><span style="color: #1c1c1c; font-family: Tahoma;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">My wife, Louise was diagnosed with Crohn&rsquo;s in 2004 and has had periodic flare ups of the condition during the last 7 years.
