Story
Catriona and I were so looking forward to racing in the Etape du Tour last year. The photo on this page was taken as we prepared for the race - on a training weekend in the French Alps near Chamonix. I think it really shows Catriona in her element.
Just before the event on June 29th, Cat was suddenly and tragically taken away from us as she cycled into work. Cat was an amazing wife, daughter, sister, friend and colleague to so many. We are all utterly devastated by our loss.
As a tribute to Cat's amazing life and in her honour, 10 family and friends will ride the 2010 Etape on 18th July. This year's route is in the Pyrenees and is epic - 181km long and 4000m of vertical climbing. There are 3 huge mountain to get over - Col de Marie-Blanque (1035m), Col du Soulor (1474m) and a mountain top finish of the famous Col du Tourmalet (2115m). We ride this stage of the Tour de France a few days before the professionals role through and we must complete it before the broom wagon sweeps us up. In doing this event, we are raising money for RoadPeace. Although most people will never hear of this charity, they do wonderful work. RoadPeace is the national charity for road crash victims. They provide practical and emotional support to victims and those bereaved through road crashes. They also campaign for justice for victims and road danger reduction policies that champion the needs of vulnerable road users. Please visit their website:
I hope you will support us in our efforts and give whatever you can. It will motivate us all as we are 'in the red' working our way up those climbs!!! Also, if you are a UK taxpayer, please select the option for GiftAid as this increases the amount we raise at no extra cost to you.
Wish us luck!
Many thanks - Team Cat.
