Story
Bravehearts, who are part of the Scottish Association for Children with Heart Disorders (SACHD), allowed us the space and environment in which to heal after the trauma of Matt's initial diagnosis and surgery. They fully funded a Coaguchek Machine, which is much like the machines used by people with diabetes, but instead of checking blood sugar using a single thumb prick, it checks INR (how easily the blood will clot). Because Matt has a mechanical heart valve, he must take the drug Warfarin, for which INR must be constantly monitored. This would usually be done at a Doctor's surgery or a hospital...however, this is not possible if you move to a small Hebridean Island with no doctor.
We moved to the Isle of Rum in 2009, a beautiful, unspoiled, tranquil place that provided the ideal therapy to overcome everything that had come before. Without support from Bravehearts, we would not have been able to live normally while there, or perhaps live there at all. Our time on Rum built our physical, mental and emotional strength in a way that would not have been possible elsewhere. It was a precious, wonderful experience, enabled by Bravehearts.
We'd be extremely grateful if you could show them support so that they might help others in the way they helped us.
Thank you!
