Story
Now you all know that I'm not a natural runner. I lumber, I galumph, I snort and when I'm done getting my trainers on, I make an often knee-crunching attempt at a couples of miles, after which I sit back and decide that I'm much more of, you know, a kind of cycling, Pilates, Kung fu kind of girl..
I have run successfully only once in life, when I joined the TA in 1997, and then only with the help of Papa Ruewell, Recruiting Sargent Speed and a fetching pair of Ron Hills, did I manage to successfully puff my way through a fitness test.
But I am now 41, out of shape and in the land of permanent spandex. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
So with a plan in place and (naturally) an app to track my progress, I have signed up to run 6 miles across the Bay Bridge in a special event organized by the U.S. Navy.
See www.navylifesw.com for details.
It's a run/walk, but me and my knees are going to run it!
I would be honored and grateful if you would consider sponsoring me. It will not only keep me on track for every training run, but it will raise much needed funds for Headway, the charity that works with people living with brain injuries. This charity has provided much needed support to a beautiful friend of mine in Jersey and so the money will go directly to that branch. Even small amounts will ensure that services continue, vital when such services are a lifeline to many.
5 or 10 pounds/dollars quickly add up, 50 quid adds up quicker but any sum will mean my suffering is not in vain.
Wish me luck. And thank you friends.
