William, our youngest son, was diagnosed with Worster Drought Syndrome when he was three.  Archie, his older brother has the same syndrome and we were totally floored when we realised we had a second son with the same disability. It is hard to describe the grief we felt but in the early days I felt as though I was swimming through mud every day and could only just stay afloat.

William has severe communication difficulties, fine and gross motor difficulties and learning difficulties. He would not have coped in a mainstream nursery school - we know this as Archie went to one. It is practically impossible to find a suitable nursery or school for a child with such complex difficulties. Luckily we heard about the Puzzle Centre.

The Puzzle Centre is a charity that promotes and delivers early intervention for young children with autism and other communication difficulties and supports families and practitioners through training and outreach programmes.

The Puzzle Centre has been a haven for us. Although William does not have autism he has been benefitted hugely from the dedicated specialist teachers, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and LSA's who have worked with him and us over the last three years. Thanks to them he is leaving as a confident and happy child - able to communicate through sign, symbols and the odd word! 

As William has benefitted so much from going to Puzzle I really wanted to raise some money to help them with their annual struggle to keep afloat. Every year the Puzzle Centre has to raise approximately £250,000 just to keep going. Being such a small charity it really is an uphill struggle for them to raise the funds year on year.
