Story
Mum was a true fighter and lived with this cancer for many years un-diagnosed. Her personality was bubbly and full of life and she loved her pretty flowers and butterflies which she often wore as hair pieces, "her trademark" :-) many i'm sure will remember her by.
Her wish was to donate her body to medical science, but sadly this has not been possible due to time constraints. She would be over the moon if she knew that she could leave a legacy to research into her type of cancer.
Not many will know that mum had cancer of the parotid gland which is in the brain, and can affected your eye-sight, salivary glands and facial muscles, causing disfigurement. She was very conscious of this and it affected her activities every day, until she would not go out and be seen.
In choosing this charity: The Head and Neck Cancer Foundation, who are fully adopted in Denmark and the Netherlands and is growing in deployment in Europe and the US, we hope their commitment to concentrate on spreading awareness of these types of cancers will help patients to get treatment sooner therefore increasing their survival rates. And by providing training for medical professionals about SNB, to cancer units around the UK, will aim to reduce the effects caused by surgery by eliminating neck dissection surgery, which has a drastic impact on a patients life.
