Story
Hi Everybody
On Sunday I completed the Edinburgh marathon and thanks to your fantastic support, the total raised so far is now at over £ 2,500 (thank you Yorkshire Bank for matching the donations so far).
What an incredible experience the last few days has been. On Friday morning I woke up, sneezed and "did my back in" to the extent that I couldn't put my foot down. After a quick visit to the chiropractor and under orders to take it easy for a couple of days, I headed up to Scotland.
When I started the race it was about 14 degrees but after about 2 hours it was 26 degrees - I was on course for my target time of under 4 hours at the half marathon stage but then I started to do an impression of the duracell bunny. At between 16 & 18 miles I reached the low point of the day as the course got hotter & hotter and the heat really got to me, the temptation to give in was high. What kept me going was reminding myself why I was doing this, the sponsorship you have all so generously given and taking inspiration from others.
The support from the spectators was very humbling - complete strangers shouting encouragment and spraying me with hose pipes helped me get over the finish line.
The feeling I got running up the finishing straight with people urging me on is something that I shall never ever forget. Finally thanks to my wife Anne for her fantastic support over the last 6 months and on Sunday especially.
Thank you all once again.
