As many of my friends and family are aware, running has played a mayor part of my life for a number of years.  This is why I have challenged myself to complete a number of  races during 2015  to raise money for a very worthwhile cause - Tourette's Action.    My challenge is to be supported by a number of my friends and family, and with their support and motivation I hope to reach my fundraising goal.

" Hi my name is Rhys I have Tourettes syndrome.  I am 11 years old and I am going to tell you what it is like to live with Tourette's. I have many tics and some of them go away after time .     It is very hard to live with Tourette's when you are ticing it is so depressing because it feels like everyone is looking at you, in school and in public places.   It makes me say to them "what you looking at its only a disability so what you looking at".  Some of my friends understand me but some people don’t. So in school I carry a tourettes card around with me so if anyone asks I can give them the card to look at and read.  In school I try and keep hold of my motor and vocal tics which is really hard.  When I come home I have to let them all out which can leave me feeling really tired and not wanting to do anything".

In October 2012, Rhys was diagnosed with this condition, and as a family we have experienced, and continue to experience many on-going challenges.    By starting the journey to understand how this neurological condition can effect a person and families, I  found that support, guidance and acceptance are at the heart of enabling individuals to make sense living with Tourette.  Having access to social opportunities and experiences to provide children and their families which give acceptance, provide time to 'chill out', meet others living with Tourette's and just to relax and have to fun is so fundamental to supporting families.  Currently within the North Wales area there is currently no support services available which specifically provide social opportunities for children, young people and adults to meet.  My challenge therefore, is focused upon trying to raise enough funds to enable the setting up and development of a support group to specially support individuals and families living with Tourette's and other associative conditions.

My challenge ......... To date, I have entered and shall be taking part in:-

Four Villages 1/2 Marathon 18th January 2015, Rhyl 10 mile challenge, Stafford 1/2 Marathon 22nd March 2015, Chester 1/2 Marathon 17th May 2015, Jane Tomlinson 10K, - Hull June 14th 2015, Stafford 10k June 21st 2015 and Bog Commando 12th September 2015.  There are more races planned so watch this space!!!

Supporters running races include:

Lesley Billingsly, Sheri Finlow, Andy Crozier,  Sheryl Cruckshak, Emily Hornby, Elizabeth Hornby, Paul Hornby and Greg Finlow.

Thanks guys your support is so much appreciated :-)

All it leaves me to say is Thank you,  your Donation will be going to support the work carried out by Tourette's Action.

Many thanks,

April
