Story
Every year, over 12000 people are diagnosed with a primary brain tumour - that's 33 people every day. Of those diagnosed, only 12% of adults survive for five years after diagnosis. Despite these shocking statistics, only 3% of the £700 million spent on cancer research in the UK is spent on brain tumours.
That's why Ashfield Health is supporting Neurocare - a Sheffield-based charity supporting patients, scientists, and staff at The Royal Hallamshire in Sheffield. Neurocare raises funds to buy equipment and support research to save and improve the lives of patients with life-changing and potentially fatal neurological conditions.
On the 12th of August, the Ashfield Health AstraZeneca pubs teams will be undertaking a number of challenges, all linked to the number 12, in recognition of the 12000 people diagnosed every year with a primary brain tumour. Anything is on the table, from a 12km run, to 12000 steps in a day, or baking 12 delicious brownies!
One of our own - Tom Stoker - was diagnosed with a brain tumour while studying in Sheffield, so undertook his treatment at The Royal Hallamshire. After seven brain surgeries, including an awake craniotomy, and six weeks of radiotherapy, Tom knows how vital and life-changing the support Neurocare gives patients at The Royal Hallamshire is.
Your fundraising means so much to Neurocare, NHS staff and the patients whose lives have been improved, changed and saved through the generosity of people like you. Every penny you raise helps Neurocare fund life-saving equipment, research, patient support services, hospital transformations and medical training, all of which enhance the care and treatment of neuroscience patients being treated in Sheffield's NHS hospitals. Thank you so much for your support!
