We’ve come up with a team name and the t-shirts are ready! We've just started training! But, hey! We are taking the plunge and taking on the mighty Victoria Park (well….half of it) in Hackney, East London and 10k of smooth and flat running surface. It’s going to be tough!
But sarcasm aside (or as I would like to put it; dry humour) the team (myself, Tanuj, Hemali, Rachel and Greg) are running to raise money for the Bart’s and the London Charity. The charity hosts the 10k race (now in its 20th year) and helps to raise money for three worthy causes. We are aiming to make a contribution by raising a minimum of £500.
All the money you donate will be split between the following three funds:
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a lethal genetic disorder. The has been home to a specialist CF unit for the last 20 years and cares for over 110 patients with this condition. Money raised would fund CF ‘vests’ which help to clear the air passages of the lungs, preventing infections and significantly improving quality of life. Money would also be used to provide laptops for CF patients so that they can communicate with the outside world and keep up-to-date with their education.
Trauma & Emergency Care at the Royal London Hospital Trauma is a leading cause of death in the , accounting for over 16,000 deaths a year. This specialist unit serves millions across and the South East, and is internationally recognised as a leading centre which has pioneered and refined the delivery of trauma care. Support will enable additional improvements in patient care, help to fund vital research and potentially further reduce mortality rates which are currently 48% lower than the national average for critical injuries.
Prostate Cancer Research at St Bartholomew's (Barts) Hospital Barts is a specialist tertiary referral centre for cancer in the North East of London and beyond. In the alone, 35,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year. This is a fast growing cancer which mainly affects men over the age of 50. Investment is desperately needed for the development of new treatments, which could make a difference to thousands of patients and their families.
