Story
On 23rd Feb, I took part in Stage 3 of the Dallaglio Cycle Slam charity fundraising event as one of a team of 21 from Greene King. Along with Lawrence Dallaglio, Raphael Ibanez, Lee Dixon, Will Greenwood, James Cracknell and about 45 others, we cycled 440km over 4 days between Paris and Twickenham, plus an additional 25km for a detour on day 3 where two of the teams (which I was in) got lost! Day 3 was definitely the most tough at 92 miles/135km with the Folkstone to Maidstone stretch cycled in torrential rain. 2 punctures for me that day and also 2 the day before didn't add to the enjoyment!
Lawrence has set himself the challenge of raising over £1m for Sport Relief and The Dallaglio Foundation - we are still hoping to raise lots more money to support these charities. He is riding a total of 2800km between all the 6 Nations rugby grounds over 24 days, visiting a few watering holes along the way if Stage 3 was anything to go by!
The Dallaglio Foundation is supporting 4 fantastic charities as part of the ride:
Help for Heroes: raising money to help support our wounded servicemen and women
Cancer Research UK: dedicated to beating cancer through research.
Debra: the national charity working on behalf of people in the UK with the genetic skin blistering condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) - see the video link on my page.
The Professional Rugby Players Association Benevolent Fund: providing financial support for players who have been forced to retire from the game due to serious injury or illness, and support players’ families in the event of their untimely death.
Please give us as much as you can for these great causes.
Thanks, Ashleigh
