Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am asking for your support as I train to ride a bike 1,000 miles from John O'Groats to Lands End in June 2011. Getting up to put in some miles on a cold winter's morning is hard enough but I think 9 consecutive days of hard slog will make me realise I should have got up even earlier in January. I am riding as part of the Deloitte Ride Across Britain event to support ParalympicsGB - it should be a great personal and team achievement! Some of ParalympicsGB key goals are listed below.
Thanks for all your support..... Ashley
With a home Games in London 2012, ParalympicsGB have a once in a lifetime opportunity to make a lasting impact on attitudes towards disability and importantly to inspire more people with a disability to get in to sport. |
When people watch Paralympic sport, they see past the disability and find themselves engrossed in elite, competitive and inspirational sport. It's this power of the Paralympics that enables people to change the way they think, feel and behave towards disability. |
In order to inspire change, it's essential that the British team perform well. After Beijing, the most successful British team of all time came back to a heroes welcome and the greatest interest and support for Paralympic sport ever seen. Yet how many people can name a Paralympian or know how successful our athletes were? There is still a long way to go.
|
ParalympicsGB receive no funding for it's core activities, and so have to raise funds to ensure the British team receive the preparations they need and deserve to perform at their best when it matters most. Training camps, medical provisions, transportation, kit, media training - just a few of the elements ParalympicsGB has to provide to prepare the British team for the Paralympic Games and remove the pressures of a home Games. |
ParalympicsGB will be taking Britain's biggest ever Paralympic team to compete in London, with over 300 athletes compared to just over 200 in Beijing.
